Donald Trump and Melania Trump were reported to be moving to their home in Florida’s Mar-a-Lago once they leave the White House in January. However, it seems that there is a problem because the residents there do not want them in the neighborhood.
Mar-a-Lago is a known holiday home of the Trumps since they have been spending their Christmas and other holiday events here. And when they had to vacate the White House next year, it was widely reported that Donald Trump is planning to settle here. In fact, it was said that Melania Trump has been renovating their home in preparation for their move to the private club.
The objection of Trump’s neighbors
As per CNN News, behind the ongoing renovations and general expansion of the Trumps’ 3,000 square foot private quarters, the POTUS is facing a bigger problem. It was said that aside from the objection from the residents, there could be legal issues concerning his plan to live in the property.
It turned out that his move may possibly be illegal because when Donald Trump turned his Mar-a-Lago private residence into a club, he agreed to limit his stay there. Thus, if he is moving there permanently, Palm Beach residents pointed out that it will be a violation of the agreement he made with the town.
The residents were said to have sent a letter to the mayor of Palm Beach to remind him of the agreement that was signed by the POTUS in 1993. As stated in the documents, only members of the club are allowed to stay overnight or no longer than 21 days a year so if Donald Trump and his family are really moving to the property, it would be a direct violation of what has been agreed upon.
Why the residents are not welcoming the Trumps in Mar-a-Lago
Reginald Stambaugh, the lawyer representing the residents, sent the letter to the Palm Beach mayor this week and they reiterated that the president can’t relocate to his Mar-a-Lago property because the value of properties in the territory will go down.
Besides, the 1993 agreement is still in effect and it was clearly stated there that no one, including Donald Trump himself, is allowed to live there. They also don’t want to be bothered and continue living quietly; since the POTUS is likely to host gatherings in Mar-a-Lago once he settles there, the neighbors don’t want this scenario.
Meanwhile, The Guardian noted that if Donald Trump ignores the calls of the residents and move forward with plans to live in Mar-a-Lago, a legal battle with the town is possible. His relocation will certainly be very complicated and will be stressful for the whole family instead of having a peaceful move.
